December blew in cold and painted us blue, taking away our little Bear. Our friendly , happy and sweet rat died
December 1st .Bear was Wolf's buddy , we rescued him from being a snake's dinner and in return he gave us love. Rats do not
live long as it is and Bear's time with us was far too short. His bright eyes and curiosity and companionship will be
greatly missed. His name already in place in some of our Christmas cards to go out....Goodbye little gentle friend, thank
you for being Wolf's good buddy and the smiles you brought us and the warmth you added to our hearts.
Just a couple of weeks ago our friend Pat lost her loving dog , Shaggy. Shaggy had heart problems and it was expected...but
it happened too quickly for Pat to say goodbye...And around the same time she lost a dear human friend .Our hearts go
out to her.
Losing a pet at holiday time makes the saddness even worse. It's a cheerful, bright and holly jolly season and
right in the midst is the pain of saying goodbye to your dear pet and facing the Christmas hubbub with a lonely heart. There
are still those odd people in the world who do not understand the love and companionship involved in having pets...the fact
that pets are truly part of the family. Nor do they understand the depth of the grief suffered when a pet dies. Some
people just never get it. Some even make fun of it.To many of us, a pet is someone to tell our troubles
to , someone who never judges us...they simply love us. In this crowded big busy lonely world we sometimes feel
our pets are the only ones who really love us and who understand and totally accept us. We share our secrets with them,
we cry against their fur and always have their undivided attention. Losing them can be as devastating as losing a human friend.
A pet can be your best friend and the loss of that friend is heart ripping , you can only understand if you've been there.
I've been there many times and it never gets any easier. Each time I'm tempted to never ,ever have another pet , never
to face that heartbreak again...but the heart heals. Most pet owners will get another one , but they will never
forget the one they lost. There's a bond between us and our pets...our friends....that can't be
broken, even by death.
